Significant steps have been taken in the complex and innovative program “Do Not Disturb,” which we are implementing with the support of TP Greece, in collaboration with the local authorities, the Ministry of Maritime Affairs and under the scientific guidance of the Hellenic Centre for Marine Research.
We returned to Markopoulo area to carry out educational workshops in schools of all levels in the area, where we had the opportunity to inform students about both the importance and role of Posidonia seagrass meadows and the project we are implementing in the bay of Porto Rafti.
At the same time, we proceeded with intensive work on the installation of floating moorings, ensuring zero impact on the seabed. The operation was attended by numerous Greek journalists as well as the French Press Agency, who highlighted the need to protect Posidonia seagrass meadows through innovative practices. Present at the event were Mr. Kyriazopoulos, Secretary General of Ports at the Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Insular Policy; Mr. Alagiannis, Mayor of Markopoulo-Mesogaias; Mr. Nikolopoulos, President of the Port Authorities; as well as representatives of TP Greece.
As Aegean Rebreath, we are particularly pleased with the progress made on this challenging project, demonstrating our intention to make this initiative a national benchmark. We look forward to the final step, which will include the transplantation of Posidonia seagrass meadows and the evaluation of the progress achieved in the intervention area.
A big thank you also to Aquatic Scuba Diving Club – Kefalonia – Greece for their excellent cooperation and technical contribution.
