The President of Aegean Rebreath and member of the Board of Directors of the Blue Municipalities Network, Mr. Sarelakos, along with the President of the network, Mr. Kyriakos Antonopoulos, attended a meeting at the Ministry of Environment with the General Secretary for Natural Environment & Water, Mr. Petros Varelidis.
The meeting aimed to foster close collaboration between the Ministry and the organizations, as well as to present the achievements of the network. The General Secretary and ministry officials expressed great interest in the network’s activities and agreed that there is significant potential for cooperation. Specifically, the participants concurred that the holistic action model implemented by Aegean Rebreath within the network, the research databases, and the development of common policies for the marine environment by the municipalities can provide mutual benefits on a national level.
Additionally, the need for supporting the network was discussed, as this unique initiative—now acknowledged at the European level—has so far been supported by the member municipalities of the network and the environmental organization Aegean Rebreath.
The participants agreed that the collaboration will commence on a technical level with ministry officials and representatives of the Blue Municipalities Network to identify needs and opportunities that will enhance efforts for the marine environment on a national scale.
