Moving forward together with the local community of Markopoulo region for the posidonia meadows project

We have launched the next phase of the program for the restoration of posidonia meadows in the bay of Porto Rafti. This time, the goal was to engage in consultation and inform representatives of civil society, the fishing community and marine professionals about the program’s content and the actions planned for the coming months.

As part of this initiative, a meeting was organized at the Markopoulo-Mesogaia Town Hall, where the program was presented by the President of the Markopoulo Port Fund, Mr. Nikolakopoulos, the President of Aegean Rebreath, Mr. Sarelakos, and HCMR researcher, Mr. Gerakaris. The discussion was lively, with many questions raised, and participants expressed enthusiasm for the program taking place in their region. During the exchange of views, it became clear that the success and sustainability of this complex project require the responsible participation of all stakeholders. Journalists and representatives from Teleperformance, which supports the program, also attended the meeting.

A shared commitment emerged: the active involvement of marine professionals throughout the process—from drafting the necessary technical study to developing informational materials and setting up and using mooring systems.

This workshop followed the methodology of Aegean Rebreath, which emphasizes consultation with local communities for every complex project it undertakes. After all, projects lacking social acceptance, transparency, and full information fall outside the realm of efficiency and sustainability.
