The initiative carried out in Alonissos island for the MERMAID program, which is part of the SeaClear2.0 project and co-funded by the European Commission, gained international attention! The global news agency Reuters visited the island to cover our organization’s widespread activities that took place there. The message was communicated to numerous countries around the world!
The activities included educational workshops in schools and ports on the island, where students were informed about and familiarized with technological tools; assessment missions on local reefs to locate potential abandoned fishing nets; cleanup operations at four of the island’s ports; and research activities. Also significant was the consultation process held regarding the refinement of the strategic action plan for the marine environment, which was recently approved by the Municipal Council.
Aegean Rebreath volunteers had the opportunity to speak to the international network about the organization’s work and achievements, as well as about the issue of marine pollution — a challenge for our country as well.
It is important to note that, although our organization’s efforts have attracted the interest of dozens of international media agencies since its establishment, our message for clean seas continues to be shared in all corners of the planet.
