Overall dialogue with the Secretary General of the Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Insular Policy

A highly constructive meeting was held with Mr. Kyriazopoulos, Secretary General of the Ministry of Maritime Affairs, within the framework of the memorandum of cooperation signed between Aegean Rebreath and the Ministry. The focus was on current issues and projects being implemented both by our organization and by the Blue Municipalities Network.

Mr. Kyriazopoulos confirmed the Secretariat’s intention and planning for policies that contribute to the protection of the marine environment. At the forefront was the further improvement of coordination with the Ministry’s services in order to ensure the effectiveness of all projects implemented by the members of the Blue Municipalities Network. Examples include programs for the Posidonia seagrass meadows being carried out in Markopoulo and on the island of Kea, as well as efforts to relieve the burden caused by abandoned fish farms that significantly affect the marine environment.

Finally, Mr. Kyriazopoulos informed about the Secretariat’s legislative initiatives regarding the implementation of targeted actions for the coastal and marine environment, aiming to activate local authorities.

Overall, the message of the meeting was clear and encouraging: Civil society can collaborate with central administration, contribute and respond to the existing challenges. And the cooperation of Aegean Rebreath with the General Secretariat of Ports and Maritime Investments confirms this message in the best possible way!
