We are reflecting with local communities for an holistic plan concerning the marine environment

We have now added an extra day to the two-day field initiatives we organize! A day dedicated to student communities, local communities, and municipal authorities. No wonder since the promotion of environmental democracy at the local level remains our main goal.

The recent online consultation with the members of the Blue Municipalities Network (B.M.N.) highlighted the universal need of local authorities for the development of a cohesive and meaningful action plan concerning the marine and coastal environment. In this context, our organization, as the B.M.N coordinator, in collaboration with the municipal authorities is organizing consultation meetings with the municipal authorities and the key stakeholders of each island. The sole purpose is to record the needs of the local communities to develop a strategic plan—a plan that incorporates the views and approaches of local stakeholders and ensures their active participation.

The recent rounds of consultations held in Spetses, Paros, and Zakynthos demonstrated that local communities are both interested and eager to play an active role in protecting marine wealth. Aegean Rebreath can only contribute to this direction with evidence based proposals and data at  local level, given the expanded work we are implementing in each area.
