Another initiative to promote tap water and reduce bottled water consumption has been successfully completed in Antiparos!
It was the spring of 2024 when representatives of our organization met with Mr. Faroupos, the Mayor of Antiparos, to discuss a program aimed at promoting tap water. This program was funded by Nina Schnabel, a German national, who once again demonstrated her genuine interest in Greece! At the same time, the municipal authorities, by approving the plan we discussed, also proved why they remain pioneers in implementing innovative practices.
The program involved a comprehensive plan that began with the creation and distribution of a questionnaire, which was completed by 11% of the population, followed by drawing necessary conclusions and inviting businesses to express interest in procuring reverse osmosis filters, with the ultimate goal of reducing the supply of bottled water to their customers. In parallel, the municipal authorities agreed to provide reliable real-time information on water quality—both in the municipal network and at water kiosks—through the municipality’s website. The process was successfully completed with the installation of filters for the interested parties.
Thanks to the impressive mobilization of the municipal authorities and the touching support of Nina Schnabel (who also funded a similar initiative on a second Greek island), the message is clear. The problem is significant and real; however, the solution is simple and feasible!
