Kea is the 13rd member of the Blue Municipalities’ Network!

It has been 3 years since our last visit to beautiful Kea and we came back to inaugurate our 13th station, to welcome the Municipality of Kea in the Blue Municipalities’ Network and operate in Vourkari and Korissia. The local organizations and the residents offered us very warm hospitality and, despite the rough weather conditions, we were able to dive and clean two main ports of the island with impressive results.

Unfortunately, the situation of the seabed in Vourkari was extremely disappointing and the divers of our team were faced with extensive pollution mainly from disposable plastics but also various waste, such as glass bottles and soft drink cans. The findings confirm the impact of the thousands of boats mooring every year in the marinas of the island but also underline the critical issue of reckless waste dumping in the sea.

Nevertheless, we have the insights and experience that will be able to invert this sad situation with the operation of the Marine Litter Collection Station and our multilevel cooperation with the Municipality. We are optimistic!
